Rachel Jiyana

Rachel Jiyana possesses extensive expertise in project finance and infrastructure development transactions. Throughout her career, she has skillfully represented a diverse range of clients, including commercial lenders, development finance institutions, export credit agencies, and sponsors, which encompass constructors involved in various project and infrastructure-related transactions. Her comprehensive experience underscores her proficiency in navigating the complexities of these deals, making her a valuable asset in the realm of project finance and infrastructure development.

My past experience

She has been exposed to cross border railway construction infrastructure projects and LNG projects where she advised, amongst other agreements, on concession agreements, offtake agreements, power purchase agreements EPC contracts and implementation agreements in respect of railway corridor, port infrastructure, mining and energy related sectors. She was previously involved in advising the South African government on its renewable energy independent power producers (REIPP) procurement programme and small projects. She has acted for the export credit insurer in an infrastructure, energy as well as oil and gas transaction, amongst other transactions. Particularly negotiating the transaction from a lender/insurer perspective. She recently assisted in reaching financial close for an asset finance leasing transaction for locomotives in respect of a project situated cross border.

KOKESTO LEDIGA

Koketso Lediga has vast experience in project development transactions on/in infrastructure and renewable energy projects. She has expertise in developing project risk mitigation strategies, policy research and development, compliance with complex regulatory frameworks and contract drafting and negotiating, including standard form and bespoke construction contracts, EPC contracts, O&M contracts, concession agreements, framework agreements, professional services contracts, joint venture agreements, offtake agreements, electricity wheeling agreement. She has represented and working with various stakeholders including commercial and development banks, developers, sponsors, contractors, consultants, domestic and international energy companies, government officials (including ministers). She specialises in (renewable) energy law, construction law, procurement law (with a particular focus on construction procurement and gender responsive procurement), commercial law and climate/green finance. She has been exposed to in various energy projects that include solar, wind, biomass, hydro, geothermal, liquified natural gas (floating powerships) as sources of energy, spanning over 8 African countries.

He commenced his career at Sasol Technology (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Sasol Limited in Secunda, Mpumalanga as a Commercial Officer. He thereafter moved to Sasol Solvents (Pty) Ltd another subsidiary of Sasol Limited which was situated in Rosebank Johannesburg then. He later joined Engineering and Projects Company, (E+PC), a subsidiary of Aveng Limited which was situated in Sunninghill, Sandton Johannesburg. He was exposed to construction and maintenance contracts within the Republic of South Africa. At a later stage, he got exposed to infrastructure development and construction projects which were executed in neighboring states such as Namibia as well as other African countries - Ghana and Nigeria. In these projects, he was mainly responsible for the drafting, negotiation, administration, and management of contracts to the closure of the project.

PRIDE NGCOBO

Pride Ngcobo is a Candidate Attorney at Jiyane Langa Inc., where she contributes to the firm’s litigation, corporate and commercial, construction, and deceased estate matters. She is involved in the preparation of legal pleadings, legal research, and court processes, and provides support on both contentious and transactional matters. Her grounding in legal studies and humanities equips her with a multidisciplinary perspective, which she applies to client-focused problem-solving. With a strong research ethic and attention to detail, Pride adds value to the firm’s advisory and litigation work. She is driven by a commitment to excellence, client service, and justice, which equips her to deliver strategic, high-quality legal support in line with the firm’s mission.

My past experience

Pride Ngcobo began developing her practical legal skills at the Wits Law Clinic, where she worked on a variety of matters, primarily focusing on refugee and immigration law. Her role involved client consultations, legal drafting, and research, deepening her understanding of administrative justice and public interest law. She furthered this experience through volunteer work under the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) at the Oberholzer Magistrate Court. There, she gained exposure to criminal matters and courtroom procedures, enhancing her insight into the functioning of the justice system. In addition to her legal training, Pride has actively participated in initiatives that promote social justice and constitutional values. MBALI MAGADLA

Mbali Magadla is a Candidate Attorney at Jiyana & Associates, where she forms part of the firm’s litigation and commercial support team. She assists with legal research, drafting of pleadings and legal documents, file management, and court related processes, providing support across a range of contentious and advisory matters. Her work is characterised by accuracy, strong organisation, and a client-focused approach. She also volunteered at ProBono.Org, supporting access-to-justice initiatives through research and document preparation. Meet OUR CONVEYANCER

YOLANDA OKHAREDIA

Yolanda Okharedia (“Mrs Okharedia”) has experience in conveyancing and notarial services such as the transferring of houses, registration of antenuptial contracts, drafting of agreements, registration of trusts and drafting of wills. In addition, she has extensive experience in competition law that she obtained during her employ at the Competition Commission of South Africa (“CCSA”). During this time, she investigated cartel cases, conducted dawn raids, negotiated settlement agreements and appeared at the Competition Tribunal. She also analysed the competition law and public interest impact of mergers and acquisitions which included drafting conditions for merges that had been approved with conditions, assessing compliance on conditional mergers, investigating complaints where there had been non-compliance with conditions that were imposed on mergers. Prior to joining the CCSA, Mrs Okharedia was in practice wherein she obtained experience in motor vehicle accident claims, litigation, drafting business rescue and liquidation applications. She is also currently pursuing an LLM in Taxation at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Yolanda Okharedia's journey in the legal field began with earning an LLB (Bachelor of Laws) from the University of South Africa in 2011. Following this foundational achievement, she pursued a Certificate in Tax Law at the same university in 2012, equipping her with specialized knowledge in taxation. In 2013, she was admitted as an attorney, marking a significant milestone in her professional career. To further enhance her expertise, Yolanda obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Tax Law from the University of Johannesburg in 2016 and a Certificate in Competition Law from the University of Pretoria the same year. Her dedication to the legal profession culminated in becoming a Notary and Conveyancer of the High Court of South Africa in 2019. Each of these experiences has not only broadened her legal acumen but also prepared her to navigate complex legal challenges effectively.

Noluyolo Mabuza is a passionate gender-based violence (GBV) activist and an LLB graduate from the University of South Africa. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Human Rights Law, deepening her commitment to justice, equality, and human dignity. With a strong foundation in legal studies and a heart for advocacy, Noluyolo has dedicated herself to challenging systemic injustices and promoting the rights of vulnerable communities. Her activism is rooted in a belief that legal empowerment and social action must go hand in hand to create lasting change. As a rising leader in the human rights space, Noluyolo brings both academic insight and lived advocacy to her work — always guided by a vision of a more just, inclusive, and humane society.

NOSIPHO JIYANE

Mrs. Nosipho Jiyane has over 10 years’ experience in providing operational oversight and administrative service to several legal Firms, offering the highest level of support to partners and associates. Combining and affording good corporate ethics, accountability, responsibility, respect, and integrity is my main objective to broaden my professional horizon. Prior to joining Jiyana Langa Inc, Mrs Jiyane obtained experience in motor vehicle accident claims, litigation, debt collecting, debt review and family law. She is also currently pursuing further education in the legal field.

My past experience

Nosipho Jiyane completed a Paralegal Course at the School of Law in South Africa and a Legal Secretary Course through the Law Society of South Africa’s Legal Education and Development Division. With a strong foundation in legal support services, Nosipho is equipped to assist in a variety of legal matters, contributing valuable administrative and procedural expertise to the legal field.
